EES Academy: Interdisciplinary Training for Future Careers
The concept of the EES Academy is to teach both scientific and professional skills in a structured and interdisciplinary setting for a future career in academia, industry, or public administration. We do so in various ways, ranging from lecture formats at our partner universities to workshop formats within our EES Academy network, all the way to tailored event formats such as the Block Course.
These aspects of our curriculum are structured in different key areas and the individual formats are tailored for various peer groups ranging from master’s students all the way to early faculty. We particularly focus on a natural transition of EES Academy members throughout their advancement between different career stages by featuring courses made for different levels of expertise.
Scientific Skills
The Scientific Skills Training aims at deepening and widening the knowledge in the interdisciplinary field of electrochemical energy storage. We offer workshops, seminars, and lectures, which deepen understanding of a specific topic or widen the scope or a reserach field. To keep track of the developments in various fields and to get hands-on training to important methods, we offer different events.
Professional Skills
The Professional Skills Training aims at additional transferable skills that are not directly related to electrochemical energy storage, but essential for any scientist and engineer during the doctorate and in preparation for a future career in academia or industry. It is organised in the categories Communication, Management, Good Scientific Practice / Research Ethics and Equal Opportunities, Diversity and Mentorship.
Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion
The support of underrepresented groups is a core mission of the EES Academy as we want to foster and strengthen the next generation of researchers and engineers regardless of their background. To create and provide a supportive environment and make all our members aware of unconscious biases, we offer workshops for different career stages.
Graduate Program
Doctoral researchers of the EES Academy undergo a structured qualification program that consists of a core program and electives from all categories mentioned before. The qualification program is a unique opportunity for early career researchers to obtain skillsets far beyond an unstructured doctorate program.
