Core Program and Electives
Graduate Program of the EES Academy for Doctoral Researchers
The core peer group of the EES Academy are Doctoral Researchers. As such, the EES Academy provides a dedicated structured and certified qualification program consisting of several mandatory but individually electable parts.
It is designed to cover the three essential aspects of the EES Academy, namely a common fundamental understanding in the interdisciplinary field of electrochemical energy storage, scientific exchange and networking, as well as transferrable skills training.
Core Program and Electives
The qualification program consists of a core program that includes attandence of the Block Course with its two individual parts, the attendence of the EES Academy Summer School, and a Reserach Stay Abroad. The Core Program is then further complemented by a series of elective courses in the two areas of scientific and transferable skills which can be selected freely from our extensive curriculum. The individual parts are birefly described in the following:
Block Course
The Block Course covers the full spectrum of electrochemical energy storage and conversion from theory to engineering and from fundamentals to applications. It is offered in two parts and features lectures by world-leading experts in various aspects of electrochemical energy storage. It is the perfect opportunity to get to know other EES Academy members and should be attended during the first year of the doctorate in order to get a broad general understanding of the most important and relevant concepts. External participants are welcome to join the Block Course.
Summer School
The EES Academy Summer School focuses on scientific exchange, discussion, and professional skills training. Alongside talks by national and international experts, the Summer School is dedicated to doctoral researchers presenting their own research. EES Academy doctoral researchers are required to attend the Summer School at least twice during their doctorate. The Summer School is also open to external participants.
Research Abroad
A three-month research stay at a foreign institute or laboratory, or a traineeship at an industrial site, to support international networking and cultural experience is the best way to build confidence and connect within the international network of electrochemical energy storage research.
Electives
Besides the Core Program consisting of the Block Course, Summer School, and Research Stay Abroad, doctoral researchers have the liberty in selecting different offers in the columns of scientific training and professional skills training but have to earn a certain amount of credits in each of these columns. This way, we not only guarantee a flexible, individual, and interdisciplinary education that goes far beyond any unstructured doctoral program, we also incorporate training on aspects that are key to personal development which are critical for both academic and industry related career paths.
