Workshops, Seminars & Lectures
Scientific Training
The Scientific Training aims at deepening and widening the knowledge in the interdisciplinary filed of electrochemical energy storage.
In addition to the Core Program, consisting of the Block Course, Summer School and Research Stay Abroad, the Scientific Training features workshops, seminars and lectures, which can be chosen to dig deeper into a specific topic, to widen the scope and keep track with the developments in the field and to get hands-on training to important methods. The Schientific Training is composed of the following three categories:
Workshops
Workshops in the Scientific Training aim at deepening knowledge on a specific topic, such as important characterization techniques, or data evaluation and visualization, in a compact format. Examples of workshop topics include X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (EIS). Workshops usually combine lectures, practical exercises, and hands-on training.
EES Academy members can freely choose which workshops to attend, tailoring their training to fit their individual needs. Workshops are also usually open to other scientists at our partner institutions.
Seminars
Seminars, in the form of scientific presentations and discussions, are a great opportunity to follow recent developments in the field and to widen one’s scope beyond one’s own specific topic. To underline the importance of attending seminars regularly, a minimum of 36 seminars must be attended over the course of the EES Academy qualification program.
There is a broad variety of seminars to choose from, such as institutes’ seminars, the GDCh (Gesellschaft Deutscher Chemiker) seminars, the HIU (Helmholtz Institute Ulm) seminar, ZfM seminars or colloquia and the monthly POLiS seminar. The latter is co-organized by EES Academy doctoral researchers, who give presentations, propose speakers, and hold special Q&A sessions exclusively for doctoral researchers after each talk.
Lectures
Attending a lecture for an entire semester allows members to dive deep into a specific topic. Ulm University, Karlsruhe Institut of Technology and Justus Liebig University Giessen offer a wide range of lectures in the field of electrochemical energy storage at the bachelor’s and master’s level. EES Academy members are free to choose a lecture of their interest — whether closely related to their own research project or from a more distant discipline.
Preparing to teach demands an even deeper engagement with a topic than simply attending a lecture. Doctoral researchers involved in teaching — for example, as a tutor for exercises related to a lecture or as a tutor in lab courses — can receive credits for this instead of attending a lecture.
